Short Books by Independent Authors

This year, burnout kicked my butt, my attention span was non-existent, leg day turned into a month long injury, and the TV betrayed us completely.

My escape? I couldn't do full length novels. So when I wasn't writing, I was drawn to short indie reads that kept me connected.

Short Books: Indie Reads

Here are a few of the incredible short thriller books that didn't demand too much from my tired brain:

🔪 Enter If You Dare, by Michael Nunn

One of my favourite short reads (probably ever). I can't put my finger on it but there's something about Nunn's writing style and storytelling that makes me want to read more of the horror genre. If Nunn writes it, I'm going to read it.

🔪 Just In Case, by J.R. Vieira

Not a thriller or horror but this is one I couldn't put down, and to get that feeling through burnout must mean something. This is an important read and one that a lot of women could resonate with. Almost made me cry.

🔪 The Tickle Monster, by David Washburn

I read this over the spooky season when I felt brave. It was creepy, tense, and surprisingly emotional. Washburn had me worrying about those kids like they were real. Genuinely didn’t expect to be so invested in two fictional children, but here we are...

🔪 The Last Chapter, by T.M Lunn

It's so hard to say anything about this one without spoiling it... So just read it. Such a good read, such a good twist.

🔪 Tides of Our Sins by Amy Tackett

Ok, I admit, I read this previously and not during burnout but it had so much of an impact that I couldn't not include it in my list of short recommended reads. It's one of my favourites by Tackett and one I'd definitely read again.

And in case they're not already on your TBR, may I be a tiny bit cheeky and slide in my own short thrillers? 🤭 The Neighbour, and 'Til Death Do Us Part.

Readers say they're quick, dark, and easy to read.... so perfect for burnout days.
