Liar, Liar – if you enjoy emotional psychological thrillers with complex characters and plenty of twists.

Writing & Publishing

What is an indie author?

An indie (independent) author is someone who publishes their own books rather than working through a traditional publishing house.

Being an indie author means I oversee every part of the publishing process, from writing and editing to designing my own book covers, marketing my books, and connecting directly with readers.

Which book was the hardest to write?

Liar, Liar.

Writing from dual points of view while exploring grief, loneliness, and deeply flawed characters pushed Arti well outside her comfort zone.

It was emotionally exhausting to write, but also the book she's proudest of. Find out what readers thought about Liar, Liar here.

Where does Arti get her ideas?

Arti usually gets her ideas from everyday situations. Be it a simple conversation or something she overheard in a café. A strange neighbour, a news headline, or someone behaving oddly.

Arti loves using her own anxiety and paranoia in her thrillers, taking ordinary moments and asking, "What's the worst thing that could happen?"

Are Arti's books based on true stories?

Not directly.

Many are inspired by real-life moments or observations that spark an idea, but the stories themselves are fictional.

For example, The Neighbour was inspired after one of Arti's own neighbours disappeared for several days following an argument Arti overheard.

Her neighbour had actually gone on holiday, but by then it was too late, her imagination had already written an entirely different story. Read more about why Arti wrote The Neighbour here.

How long does it take Arti to write a thriller?

Usually around one to three years depending on the length.

Some books come together quickly, while others need several rewrites before they're ready for readers.

Who designs Arti's book covers?

Arti designs her own covers.

It is one of her favourite parts of the publishing process and allows her to create something that reflects the tone of the story while keeping complete creative control over her books.
