I judged this one by the cover, because isn't it gorgeous?

The Maid, by Nita Prose was a bit of a mixed experience for me. It started off quite slow, and I honestly wasn’t sure I’d stick with it. But then the second half really picked up and became unputdownable.
The tension and pacing were much stronger and I was hit with that 'one more chapter' feeling into the early hours.
That said, the ending left me disappointed.
I kept waiting for a bigger, jaw-dropping twist, and it just didn’t land for me. I wasn’t a fan of Molly at the start, though she did grow on me over time and just when I thought I liked her, the twist about her gran took that away from me. I couldn’t really connect with her (or any of the characters) in a meaningful way.
I’ll admit, I judged this one by its cover (which I absolutely love) but overall, it wasn’t the story for me. I’m glad I gave this one a try.
Amazon Synopsis
It begins like any other day for Molly Gray, silently dusting her way through the luxury rooms at the Regency Grand Hotel.
But when she enters suite 401 and discovers an infamous guest dead in his bed, a very messy mystery begins to unfold. And Molly’s at the heart of it – because if anyone can uncover the secrets beneath the surface, the fingerprints amongst the filth – it’s the maid . . .

This was a nice read because it stayed simple and didn’t try to sound smarter than it needed to. I liked how it explained the “why” behind the suggestions, so it didn’t feel like random bullet points you forget five minutes later. Somewhere in the middle I ended up clicking around newimage.io too, mostly because the overall vibe felt similar when you want a bit more context without getting overwhelmed. The examples helped a lot, and the writing felt like it came from someone who’s actually dealt with this stuff before. Also, the page itself was easy on the eyes, with clear headings and short chunks of text that make skimming feel natural.
