Bookstagram made me do it. It made me find and purchase some of my favourite thriller books to date and I absolutely love the Bookstagram community.
Bookstagram is a vibrant community of book lovers on Instagram, and has become a haven for discovering new reads. As an avid reader myself, I have found countless gems through Bookstagram recommendations.
I'm excited to share some of my top five favorite thriller books that I purchased based on Bookstagram's influence and absolutely loved! These novels kept me awake, eagerly turning pages late into the night.
1. "The Silent Patient" by Alex Michaelides:
I've mentioned this one in a few of my posts now, but "The Silent Patient" is definitely one of my favourites. It takes readers on a journey into the mind of Alicia Berenson, a famous painter who has been locked in a psychiatric facility since she allegedly murdered her husband. The story unfolds as Theo Faber, a psychotherapist, becomes obsessed with uncovering Alicia's motives and breaking her silence. Filled with twists, psychological suspense, and masterful storytelling, this book will leave you guessing until the very last page.
2. "Verity" by Colleen Hoover:
Colleen Hoover, known for her romance novels, takes a departure with "Verity." This dark and intense psychological thriller follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who is given the opportunity to finish a bestselling author's series after a tragic accident leaves her unable to write. As Lowen delves into Verity Crawford's notes, she discovers secrets that could change everything. Gripping and suspenseful. I found "Verity" disturbing and twisted, and although a part of me is still unsure of whether it is a 'favourite', it was so messed up that I find it hard not to add to this list.
3. "His & Hers" by Alice Feeney:
When news presenter Anna Andrews returns to her small hometown to cover a murder case, she becomes entangled in a web of secrets and lies that will test her sanity. Alternating between Anna's perspective and that of the detective investigating the case, this psychological thriller explores the blurred lines between truth and deception, leading to an explosive climax. Alice Feeney expertly weaves together multiple narratives, leaving readers guessing until the very end. I really, really loved "His & Hers" and would highly recommend listening to it on Audible if you can.
4. "Rock, Paper, Scissors" by Alice Feeney:
Alice Feeney proves her mastery of suspense again with "Rock, Paper, Scissors." The novel revolves around Adam and Amelia, a couple who embark on a remote cabin getaway to salvage their crumbling marriage. Their peaceful retreat turns into a nightmare when they discover strange and sinister messages that hint at a horrifying past. This is a novel of secrets, manipulation, and revenge, and Alice Feeney does a fantastic job at sucking you in before revealling the twisted truth.
5. "An Anonymous Girl" by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen:
This isn't the first time I've recommended a book by this duo. In "An Anonymous Girl," Jessica Farris, a struggling makeup artist, signs up for a psychological study on ethics and morality, led by the enigmatic Dr. Shields. As the study intensifies and boundaries blur, Jessica becomes increasingly entangled in Dr. Shields' manipulative experiments, raising questions of trust, identity, and the lengths one will go to protect their secrets. With its complex characters, psychological intrigue, and constant sense of unease, this novel will keep you hooked.
